Last night was the final night of the season for my outdoor theater and it ended rather abruptly when my Yamaha RX-V765 decided to go out on me.
The receiver had worked flawlessly for years until last, we got about 15 minutes into the movie when the receiver appeared to just shut down.
Upon further inspection the receiver was actually still on but the display was dead as well as audio output. I disconnected all the speakers and inputs and tried powering it up. The relays still switch on after power is applied but i don't get a display or output.
I do have a degree in EE but that has been several years ago. I know about just enough to hurt myself or let out the magic smoke.
I did open the cover to look for obvious loose connections, dust, fried components, ect. but nothing stuck out at me. I verified the transformer is receiving power to the primary and there is ac voltage coming from the secondary.
Can anyone advise me where to begin troubleshooting or would I better off just to send this in to a repair center?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Here's a link to a service manual for it. Yamaha RX-V765 Manual - Audio Video Receiver - HiFi Engine You may need to sign up for a free membership to access it.
I'd start by seeing if there is power getting to the display board.

Thanks for the link. I wish the display worked so I could try the self diagnostics.
I was able to measure some voltage going to the display and the "pure direct" button still turns blue when pressed.
When pressing the power button there are a total of relays that click other than that I get nothing.
This is very frustrating, I was hoping to get a lot more use out of this unit.

I finally had some time to open the receiver up and do some testing. I found a section of the service manual that gives the voltages and starting poking around.
From what I can tell the Operation PCB assembly which contains the display is getting proper power.
I guess my next step is to check the display driver which is an IC402.
