Ok, kinda out of my element here with SMPS devices.
Heres' the rundown, my clod sister-in-law managed to plug in the XboX directly into 220VAC instead of the 220-110 VAC transformer that was sitting on the floor next to the tangle of power cords.
Yeah she popped audibly & then nothing. I opened the device up and sure enough I found a 470K 1/4 watt resistor was fried (Actually only half fried, could read the colors). Tested the 'burned resistor, came in at some 580K plus...out of spec.
Next to the resistor was, I assumed was a mini fuse a quarter inch in diameter all plastic quarter inch high, marked 4A 250 volt.
Tested it on the multimeter, read open on resistance & didn't swing up as a cap would....logical right?
Would not seem to be the case...rigged up some series/parallel combos & nailed the resistor. Since I didn't have a fuse or holder at that rating I jumped it with some appropriately thin wire, held my breath (was going to rig someting later) & plugged it in.......................Opppssssssssssss. Perhaps that device was NOT a fuse. More noises & the adjacent .22mF 275 Volt cap started "going out".
Ok..perhaps I should have started with a schematic & gone from there..........removed & tested each component.
Can somebody steer me here with a schematic, some experience with this device? No I'm not an electronics "dummy.......technically challenged" just started out on the wrong foot.
