I've got a CAL Delta that I'd like to hang onto for awhile as the transport for a second system. Unfortunately it has a nasty "skipping" problem that goes away after awhile--usually after having slapped it upside the chassis.
Finally I decided that violence wasn't the answer and I lifted the hood. I noticed that the disc really wobbles about the axis.
Since it seems California Audio Labs is kaput--and my warranty is long since expired anyway--is there anything that I might be able to try here at home to fix this thing?

Hi Erik,
I have that CAL Delta too, and love it, extremely good sounding, nearly analogue powerful, transport.
I have that skipping problem too, from time to time. I then clean the linear drive mechanism of the laser arm with propyl spray and press skip for 15 minutes. After that, is is ok for some years. Since I own this Delta - I bought is s/h 10 years ago - I had to do this twice.
Never experience that wobbling problem, perhaps the pressure on the CD (there must be some springs) isn't enough.
regards,
Hartmut
I'll give that a shot. Everything looked surprisingly dust free inside... I had been expected huge "dust bunnies" getting in the way of something.
Kudos to Cal Audio - it all fits together nicely.
I'll poke around and look for springs. Frankly I was worried about the bearing that the CD spins on. I wish I could be more precise in my language, but I'm more of an EE than an ME. 🙂
