Hi DIY folks,
Please forgive my noobness but i'm just starting out in the wide world of DIY audio and this is my first foray into the amp section of these boards.
I recently recycled an old 10" active ported sub and made my first tapped horn sub cabinet (thread here- http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/subwoofers/272762-experiments-tapped-horns.html). I've been very happy with the results of this- however, now that I'm getting a lot more output from my sub I am finding that my floorstanders (BIC Venturai V630- 8 Ohm, 150W RMS) are not getting enough power from my little NAD 3020B (35W p/c) integrated amp to match it at moderate/high volume levels. I am able to use this amp as a pre-amp/phono stage due to the little plugs that disconnect it from its amplification section, so was thinking that a class D amplification solution could be a good way to cheaply see how the floor standers would go with some more juice!
I am looking for a relatively low cost, relatively high quality Class D amplification solution so I can run my floor standers to match the new sub output. The other issue I have is that i'm currently based in Laos and it is difficult to get ebay sellers to ship here, however I have found some that offer free international shipping. So this is what I'm thinking-
Chip- 2 x 150Watt Class D Audio Amplifier Board TAS5613 150W Stereo Power Amp | eBay
Power supply- 400W 36V 11A Single Output Switching Power Supply AC to DC SMPS | eBay
Does anyone have any counter suggestions for parts I should be looking at? It looks like I could get out of it for about $100 AUS which would be nice.
I'd be very appreciative for any help/advice you are able to give me!
Many thanks,
Mark

Look up the data sheet for the TAS5613 and see if the power vs distortion vs everything else suits you.
The NAD 3020B is conservatively rated at 20W into 8 ohms, but can supposedly put 40W into 8 ohms. According to the datasheet the tas5613 can only put 65W into an 8 ohm load in single ended configuration.
So you're only going to get another 25W or 2db with the class d amp, which is barely noticeable and not likely worth it.
Also the 150W rating on the bic venturi is probably dubious. There's 2 6.5 inch generic looking woofers which are probably rated at 40 watts each, so 80 watts tops.
If I was in your position I would try to get a hold of some more efficient and/or more sensitive speakers. A speaker that is 6 db more efficient is not uncommon and would be equivalent to quadrupling amp power.

Which is a euphemism for an under-dimensioned power supply. Don't get me wrong I love the NAD 3020B and I used to own one but that's what it is.
