Here is a commercial design by a well known speaker designer that follows this principle.
Are there any designs on the forums that follow this same criteria of using a high quality wideband driver in the mid to lower treble range for the DIY enthusiast?
For some reason I feel that there has to be a quality design that the DIY crowd can build and afford.
What do you think, any known designs out there?

Perhaps, but not so likely in this corner of the sand-box, try the guys at the Multi-Way forum
Oooooo ceramic spheres. I don't know what that is, but it sounds cool. I'd like to know what the synthetic dampeners are also. When I first looked at the thing I thought they were using the FX120 but apparently not.
Hi,
I also was intrigued (but never listened to it) to the design you proposed.
if you look at this thread http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/full-range/74508-jim-griffins-jx92s-designs.html
I think you find a good answer.
In this thread you can find a highly reputed and awarded diy project of a minimonitor with an Aurum Cantus ribbon tweeter coupled at a Jordan full range driver. You can also find a floorstanding version in a MLTL cabinet.
Jim Griffin, the designer, also suggested the possibility to add to the minimonitor a subwoofer, but never proposed a design. Aurum Cantus + Jordan + 2 subwoofer looks to me very similar to the Von Schweikert design you proposed.
I made a couple of full range MLTL Jordan, I like this driver and I would be very interested a three way system based on it, unlikely I am not able to design it, even if two thirds of the system are ready...
