The Classic is around 8 dB down at 30 Hz compared to 100Hz, the Reference only 5 dB down (flatter/"better"/deeper response than the Classic), and has nearly twice the displacement for almost 6 dB more clean output capability, though will require more power to achieve the upper frequency range SPL of the Classic.
What's the ideal frequency response of the subwoofer depends on your roomgain (room modes) and the placement of the subwoofer. If it will be placed close to the wall (or even the corner), a drop in the response towards the lower frequencies sounds often much more realistic and got usually a lot more resolution and precision.
If you just want 'boom & rumble' to your movies, you're probably better off with a 'simulated flat' response.
