Why are they called "Series" crossovers

when electrically they are a parallel shunt??

OK so here is the serious part of my query, how close do the reactive elements have to be to each other?
ie Can I just wire them with the shunt across the driver terminals and connected with a length of wire??

one of those idiosynchrocies (sp) its a Shunt reactive filter, but the drivers are in series. Slightly backwards and perhaps a misnomer, depending on how you look at things.

They call them "series crossovers" because it is a topic that goes on and on and on in these threads so it's become a "series" 😉

In a series crossover the tweeter neg connects to the woofer pos, thus putting the drivers in series.

The high frequency signal passes through the tweeter and the then mostly through the HF shunt across the woofer and conversely the low frequency signals pass through the woofer and then mostly through the tweeter's shunt.
