I'm going crazy with all the internet info on who's right. I'm trying to set the bias for a Marshall TSL 602 with a pair of Mullard EL34s. When I set them at 70% the plate voltage shoots up to 471. Should I be concerned about the high plate voltage? I thought the amp was supposed to be 450 but maybe it's 460 for the plate voltage, either way it's still high. Will this hurt the amp or the tube, or is it fine and running the tube at 70% is fine. I'm confused because some warn not to run the plate voltage at high levels, others say it doesn't matter.
Who is right?... If you have an opinion or any insight, please let me know.
thank you

471 Volts compared to 450 Volts is less than a 5% error. Really nothing to be concerned about... and very common.
Relax.

Hi Brett,
I assume 70% of max. plate dissipation?
Poobah's right, don't worry about the voltage. But make sure the plates are not turning red (in a dark room). Some brands of 6L6 can't handle what was "normal" years ago. Also listen for a hum.
Otherwise, go make music!
