Whizzer me this ? (FR8 Hemp escapades.)

I have a pair of FR8 Hemp speakers and bought a pair of planet10 phase plugs for them - the 7/8" x 1 1/2" ones designed for the FE167e.

I had cut a hole in the dustcap but hadn't trimmed the edge all the way, saving that detail for the next step. When I grasped the remaining dust cap to hold it for closer cutting it seperated from the cone in that spot and so did the whizzer. Obviously the FR8 whizzer cones are glued to the dust cap edge.

Because I think the whizzer can be glued back on easily, and to avoid cutting into the vc I just gently peeled the whizzers off both drivers, and so the rest of dustcaps too. I checked to be sure the vc hadn't been damaged or seperated from the cone by playing music through them, no buzzing.

Without the whizzer the pp's don't fit tightly in the 1" vc now, but that can be fixed - even just wrap them with electric tape on their lower half that fits in the vc to fit, temporary. When/if the whizzers are put back on the tape is removed. If I decided to go without whizzers I'd get larger pp's.

I'll play them without the whizzers and with the pp's for a bit, and may tackle glueing whizzers back on later. Unfortunately I haven't played them in 4+ months so can't do any comparison with/without whizzers, even from memory. The only measuring equipment I have is a 20+ year old Audio Control D-11 octave analyzer/equalizer. It uses warble tones and vu meters, it's not hard to see 1db vu meter changes between octave settings, but it isn't a high detail device I suppose. Just to get something recorded I'll do a nearfield measurement in my room, and then later with whizzers. Maybe this will show some differences, maybe better equipment would be needed. But this would be mainly to compare differences in the driver with/without whizzers than a true fr reading of the driver.

Also I want to say I don't have any problem with the planet10 plugs or Hemp drivers. This situation is just part of the my messing around, and everything should go well.

I have a whizzer phobia anyway, as in my uneducated mind I imagine cone to whizzer reflections would garble the signal, but I have no knowledge or evidence of this. Any comments on this (whizzers, not my phobia!) ?

Well, I'm just reporting in on this situation as it may mean something to the cause. I'm interested in any comments or helpful suggestions from others similar experience.

I plan on trying the Hemps ~ 200hz up in ob's, as well as BIB, and who knows what else.
