Perhaps a truely stupid question, which socket does a 5Y3 use?
Does it have just the four connections....I'm reading that it uses an octal socket as say a 6SL7 ....with no pins on the other four?
Does it use the four pin that the 300b, 2A3 uses? What other tubes fit the same socket........I've searched & searched........I can't find any reference for it!

A 5Y3 uses a regular octal socket just like a 6SN7 would. The difference is that the 5Y3 only uses four of the eight pins that would be available. Actually, the tube itself generally has five pins on it's base. One of the five (between the filaments) has no connection.
Hi Richard,
Franks has lots of data sheets that show the information you were looking for.. Yes it is an octal type, and typically only 5 of the 8 pins are installed, with only 4 being in actual use. Same pin out as 5AR4..
