Im stuck between these 2 amps...
http://www.web-tronics.com/stertubamkit.html
or
http://www.hagtech.com/cornet.html
I understand that they are simple and cheap ones...but i can easily geta hold of them, and they will be easy for my first tube amp project...
\just a quick question...will they be enough to push a pair of 2 way loudspeakers?....and why does the hagtech cornet not have a volume control on it/
thanks

The latter is a phono preamp so it won't drive speakers at all, while the amp described in the former link seems to be a good choice for the budget conscious. There is some more information in this thread and this thread.
is there a difference between the k-12M ans the K-502?
they are both about the same price and same watts per channel.

They are very similar. Same topology, similar, but different tubes.

I'd recommend the dual mono version of the AES one... but if you don't want to spend the money, it's a toss-up on the other 2, althou in a pinch you could probably convert the AES one to 6 V heaters and use (seemingly) more common 6BM8s.

If you want to do any tube rollin I would recommend the s5 available from http://s5electronics.com/gpage1.html instead of the K-502, there the same price. I built the K-502 from here http://www.tubesandmore.com/ I got mine on sale for 120.00 which is why I bought it instead of the s5. The s5 uses 6bm8 tubes, the 6 volt version of the 11bm8 which is used in the K-502. The 11bm8 tubes are pretty rare to find except in singles. The 6bm8's are more common. If I knew this ahead of time I would of went for the S5. Pretty kewl little amp and sounds great. I use mine for tunes in my workshop almost daily. I'm thinking about converting mine to use the 6bm8's so I can use NOS tubes.

The S-5 uses -- from there assembly manual -- U1,2,3,4 4 11MS8_ 9 Pin Tube -- which is an even more obsure tube than the 11BM8.
I'm sure both these amps are based on someone buying a HUGE stash of these tubes for a dime each....
BTW the monoblock K-501 uses the 11MS8 too.

PS: I have a viking PP 6BM8 console amp (and an ECL86 one too) that i was going to rebuild into something similar to these -- one of the reasons for my interest in them. Even 40 years old, the 6BM8 amp is running with no parts swaps and sounds quite reasonable.

You are correct sir. Sorry for my misinformation. I'm pretty sure I have seen a 6bm8 version out there, though I can't remember where.😕 H'mmm maybe I should market a 6bm8 kit.😉 I've seen lots of old amps out there with the 6bm8's I think a lot of the manufactures made one.

I've got at least a half-dozen 6BM8 project amps -- most of them SE. Tubes from Japan, USA, & Europe. Svetlana also made/makes a 6BM8/6F3Pi -- i have a set coming back from Cryo soon. I also have a number of German PP EL95/ELL80 amps that will probably be recycled into 6BM8 amps (lovely OPTs on those, i could probably spare some).
