I am building a pair of 300B monoblock amps. After starting the project and manufacturing the top plates of the chassis, I decided to upgrade the power supply by adding an extra choke and filter cap. Originally, I was using 5U4G/15uf/choke/50uf(to 300B)/resistor/30uf(to both sides of 6SN7 input and driver). Now I have 5U4G/30uf/choke/50uf(300b)/choke/50uf(driver side 6SN7)/resistor/50uf(input side 6SN7). I only have spots for a 30 and two 50uf polypropylene and oil caps on the top plate so I am adding a 50uf Solen metalized polypropylene cap inside. My question is, at which node should I use the Solen cap to maximize any sonic benefits I may garner through the use of the oil caps?
Hi,
If it were me I'd put the highest quality cap at the input stage 1/2 6SN7 and highest value cap at the 300B.
Space permitting, Solen at the input as said, and move the poly&oil towards the powertube to add to the existing cap.
Cheers,😉

If you haven't already tried it then PSU designer from Duncan Amps is worth a go. It allows you to simulate different power supply circuits and see the output waveforms etc. Free download from http://www.duncanamps.com/software.html
