I am not very satisfied with current production anode caps. They don't grip the tube firmly. All caps that I have found seems to be the same Chinese ceramic with a flimsy contact inside. I have a couple of old caps that are really nice - they give a snug fit to the tube. Any tip on a source of good caps would be appreciated! 🙂
Fuse holders make a much better contact than these new production caps, which are, in my experience, garbage.
I avoid any tubes with the small size cap, like 6KM6, 6GB5, 6KG6, 6KN6, 6KD6, 6JB6, 6JF6, 6JU6, 6GV5, 6GY5, 6BQ6 etc. The Chinese caps just fall off.

There are no cap or big cap versions of most of those small cap tubes anyway.

I am using PL519 and have a great stash of nice specimens. There is some current production version that doesn't have an anode cap, but it feels silly to buy these, when I have plenty of NOS ones.
I use these... They are tighter than some of the others I've tried, but still Chinese... Using them in a build I'm doing today actually.

FWIW, GD-parts and Shengming are good suppliers on eBay. Never been send garbage parts or the wrong part etc.

Yamamoto plate caps are very good. They are available in 6 and 9 mm dia. and are slighly adjustable. Pricey, but better than any others that I have tried. You can get them from Jac Music in Germany. For EU citizens they are around 20 Euro each incl. VAT.
Thanks for the tip! Expensive, but if I find nothing else, I will go for them. Or, I will hunt down a few old TVs and recycle their caps. A session in my ultrasonic cleaner should bring them back to their old glory.
Thanks for the suggestion! Considering that these are sold as surplus, they could be of good old quality. However, they had very few in stock.
The ones I posted will hold the tubes' weight. I have had some that will fall off if you turn the amp upside down though.
