Hi,
Does anyone know where in the UK you can get hold of Gold plated hex bolts of about M3 or M4 with a length between 10 or 15mm?
I have no idea how much they cost but they'd look great on my amp!!!
Thanks for ANY help you can give me!!!

I have just bought 200 Zinc & Zellow Hex Bolts (M4x12)...I hear they look like gold (?) but a slightly dull'er.
They were only £10 (~$15) including £3.50 delievery and VAT...
£2.10 per 100!
Quite a good deal really...Hope I like them - otherwise thats alot of screws to go through!
Thanks

you could get yourself a copy of a mountain bike mag, MBUK for example and look for anodised bolts (i will look when i get home if you want), they come in all kinds of colours including gold.
If you ment actual gold plating then i have no idea where yu could get some.
Mark.
ps, heard from anyone at uni latley?

UNIVERSITY TALK:
No...But a bit of juicy gossip - Alison saw Andi at uni about a week after I told Jane Eggleston that he had told BNFL that he'd passed everything! He ignored Ali so he's pissed off about something...Wonder what or who?!
How are you doing anyway?

Bicycle shops often have some uniquely finished hardware- titanium is popular but expensive. Lots of different finishes available.

Another option is to have the bolts gold plated. Most places that do metal surface finishing can do it, and it is not as expensive as you would think. I once had a two dozen small allen head bolts gold plated, at a price of about 1 US$ each.
The Golden Screw
Years and years ago, this young lad was born with a golden screw in his navel. When he went swimming with his friends, they all made fun of him. One day while walking in the Enchanted Forest, his Fairy Godmother appeared and promised to grant him one wish. Without hesitation, he said, "I wish I was rid of this golden screw in my navel!" His fairy Godmother said, "Very well, take this bag of magic sand and sprinkle it in your eyes. You will fall sound asleep, and when you wake up, your wish will be granted."
The little boy quickly sat down next to a large tree, sprinkled the sand in his eyes and fell promply asleep. A little while later, he awoke and looked down and saw that the screw was no longer there. He was so happy that he got up and danced and kicked his heels...and then his butt fell off.
Coming unscrewed myself,
Fred

Paint in black?
Would that really look alright?
And what should that do to the sound of the Amp?

You would get darker sounding amp, like Krell for example.😉
I moved the other content to music section and created a new, interesting thread: http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=78846#post78846
Hi,
Didn't think about painting them...
Like I said, I've bought these Zinc & Yellow Plated Bolts. Does anyone know of a decent picture of a Zinc & Yellow finish? All I can find are fixings companies that just list their products with no pictures. I know it won't change the sound, but I think a good finish is just as important. If it wasn't, then we wouldn't get so much enjoyment from Peter's Fantastic Craftsmanship! He's the inspiration for all good work!!! 😉

Gold plated hex bolts on Ebay!
Look like 8/32 x 3/8, too short and non-metric
as the thread request, but what the heck...

Rarkov,
Have you tried Maplin's section on car audio? They have all kinds of dubious gold plated stuff for the car-fi crowd (I even remember seeing gold-plated allen keys!). I don't have a catalogue near so I can't check but's probably worth a look.
Nice one,
David

PLATING
Hi,
I don't know how many of these screws you want to plate but here in Belgium you have some smaller companies specializing in plating or tinning all kind of metals.
Usually they use a chemical cleaning bath first to prepare the stuff.
Then it goes into another bath where the plating is done by electrolysis.
Now if your not in a hurry and it's just for a few pieces you can ask if they could throw your stuff in next time they prepare for someone elses' large order.
Just a thought,😉

Don't paint them. Will leave marks when tightening them. This might be how they look.

Hi,
As far as I know you can just as well get those anodized to a black matte finish.
Gold plating looks nice I would agree but any trace of abuse with a tool will show up mercilessly.
Another two Eurocents in the pot,😉

It won't show for a one time installation. Also when the rest of the chassis is gold, the only color to go with it is gold as well.😉
