I would like to use some Eminence APT-80 super tweeters to reinforce the highs of my FE206E speakers using a simple 1st order high pass crossover and a L Pad. The L Pad is no problem but I would like some opinions of where to cross this tweeter over to blend with the FE206Es. Here is a graph of the response for the APT-80 Super Tweeter:

Right now I'm using a 1uF cap with no L Pad and the highs are way too hot of course but I did get a idea of how much the upper highs are wanting with my FE206Es with bronze phase plugs. Any help is appreciated.

Personally i would forget the L-Pad for a start and just grab a handful of 0.1 uF caps. and maybe a slightly larger starter cap (0.2 or 0.3 uF). Start out with just the starter cap, and add 0.1 uF caps (listening for sometime inbetween) until you feel you are getting too much top. Then back off a bit. I predict that 0.4-0.5 uF (based on graph) might do it. That this tweeter is shelved down where it is will make it a bit tricky to get right, it would be nice if you could knock it down more below 8-10k ie a 5 dB shelving cut below 7k. With the lift 3k to 7k your 1 uF cap is only bringing the level down to the level of the 206 at just below 5k and the top octave is down 5 dB.

I have been using an eminence tweeter with my fostex 165k. I found using a cap and coil to produce a 12db cutoff rather than a 6db using caps only sounded best to me. It was easy to over do it with the efficient eminence but worth it in the end since it produces a very lively top end. I use an Lpad to blend to taste. I barely hear my super tweeter but feel it adds a sense of realism to the presentation.
