when looking at electrolytic caps (for a linear power supply), what specs (other than size/cost) should I be looking for?

as above.

I was looking at the range available in mouser and I came across a varied selection.

examples:
  • some are even supposedly "designed for audio" (Nichicon LKG series)
  • some are supposedly designed for switching supplies (CDE SLP series)
  • and many many more
Thanks in advance.

Determine the minimum specs you need first. Then derate the voltage and temperature if possible for longer life.
Also the capacitor just after the rectifier should have adequate ripple current, derated if possible.
Some linear voltage regulators may have problems with output capacitors that have very low ESR.
