In my experience, the 2 projectors i had built, It melted the fan and warped the fresnels. The first one also damaged the LCD. The price it cost me for both, I could have bought a working commecrical projector. I thinks it's better to mod a commercial and it works out cheaper when bought faulty without a lamp.
Saying this, it is a pleasure and joy to build your own one even it only works for a few days!
