8 pin (4 each side) in a Musical Fidelity P270/2 power amp can't find any reference to it in a web search! there is one per channel, also marked N8819 on one, N8827 on the other.
And would there be a newer (better?!) version. Thanks.
I get some cross-reference hits to CA3180 which I believe is a VCA (Voltage-controlled amplifier) but unfortunately no datasheet 🙁

Could be OP not zero -p OP for op-amp!
if this is indeed what it is and it makes sense would there be a better alternative these days?

...........better - yes and no.
because this is a special fast precision opamp and i think it is part of the (sound)design...........
but if you want to do some experiments you can find some other opamps.have a look at the lm 318 datasheet.........take care of oscillations if you change something.

These numbers are date codes, 19th week of 1988
along with the 27th week of 1988.
Only have to fiqure out the LM 3180P
Steve @ Apex Jr.
Can you post a photo of the part? Maybe someone will recognize a logo? Could it be an old Signetics part?
LM-parts are made by National but that might not be the case in 1988. Can't remember what CA was.
