You're right, it's a old video adapter cable. Probably of no use these days.
The more common one here had a triple RCA at both ends, with the same colors.
European equipment of that era may have had DIN plugs instead of RCAs.

It looks like an S-VHS to composite video and stereo audio cable to me, but I may be mistaken about the S-VHS side.
When I lived in Europe I had a cable set with a multi-pin DIN in each end and a handful of adapters like the one you show and also with SCART plugs. The kit was useful back in the days of analog video.

I think you're thinking of S-video. That used a mini-DIN connector rather than the larger one shown here.It looks like an S-VHS to composite video and stereo audio cable to me, but I may be mistaken about the S-VHS side.

Tom appears to be correct! I've been told the same by someone else that this lead was part of an AV video adapter kit, which would have have a bunch of different short adapters that you paired up to make the lead required. Sadly I just have this orphan lead without its partner so it is fairly useless. So any takers (in the UK) welcome!
