I haven't used it in 10 years. I found the sound harsh and very wearing. I listen to an old Eico ST-70. It's not HiFi, I just like to listen to it.
Can you rebuild these? The input JFETS are now not available. What do you do? Any suggestions? If it can be saved, I would try to use it for the bass amp of a bi-amp system.

your comments are interesting. i've never heard it described as harsh. what amp do you have that matches your tastes better? that might give us more ideas for you ...

p.s. if the amp hasn't been used in 10 years, and you just plugged it in and turned it on and started listening immediately, you might need to at least let the power supply electrolytic capacitors reform for a while. not doing this will likely impact the sound in a negative way.

It always sounded harsh to me. It gave me listening fatigue. I bought an old Eico ST-70 off of ebay 10 years ago and that put an end to the Hafler. Not HiFi by any means, but it was nice to listen.
Now I'm just wondering whether this needed an overhaul/rebuild from the time I bought it used ('92 or so) or whether it's just the way they sound.
I'm not good at describing the way an amp sounds. Too much room for misinterpretation. I just never enjoyed listening to music with the Hafler. Once after I had had the Eico for about a year, I changed the power cord on it to three wire. While I was doing it I fired up the Hafler and coudn't stand it. I realized then why I had hardly ever listened to it.
