What kind of crossover do I need for this Dayton 5 1/4 Aluminum Woofer

Hey guys I am planning on building a MTM for a center channel and was wondering what type of crossover do I need for two of these woofers coupled with one of These tweeters?


BTW: I have This Dayton crossover and was wondering if I can use it or will I hurt the speakers or smoke the crossover? Please lmk. Thanks and take care and if you have any advice on this setup please lmk

I would say, use for te tweeter the cross-over stated in the datasheet, it is 12db/oct at 2kHz. The woofer can be used (I think) at 2kHz, but you need some compensation for the cone breakup, a LCR circuit, and the rising impedance curve needs a CR circuit, to let the x-over work properly.

The mentioned cross-over isn't suitable. (XO-point to high)

What is I used a 3rd order Butterworth as stated they used in This speaker set.
I was planning on using This calculator and This PC board and crossing the woofer and tweeter over at 2khz. Would I still need something else to make a XO for this set of speakers? Thanks

When you use a steeper cross-over e.g. a third order butterworth, chances are that the cone breakup is enough attuneated. When you use the mentioned formulas use for the impedance of the woofer or tweeter the impedance at the crossover freqency, thus for the woofer 10ohm and for the tweeter ........ site isn't working for me 🙁

If you wait a little longer Darren over at PE is going to be posting the crossover for those drivers. If you send him an e-mail or keep checking in at the PE message board you will see it when it comes up. He said that it will not be much longer until it's posted.
