The STK series have a bit of a bad rep for THD. I would go for class A as well for your low power listening, if you have decent speakers.
Looking at the data sheet, an stk-8x series chip has around .2 percent THD. Thats fairly ridiculous considering a modern discrete class AB amp kit you can buy for under 100 dollars has under 0.02 percent THD.
The reason your LM1875 is probably lacking is that it probably has a underperforming Power supply, which is fairly common. Its THD is under 0.015 percent. A hell of a lot better then a STK module.
I guess the question really is, when you say "best" what do you think as "best" for you?
use the STK for a subwoofer amp if you must, where the THD wont bother you.
In australia, an STK 086 module (80 watts) costs around 14 dollars, and an LM1875 is around 7 dollars.
A LM3875 is 13 dollars.
