That is quite interesting!

Mr. Whitener must have started his audio career in the crib. He was running WE during the halcyon days of Sound Practices - he still looks pretty young.

What a journey his love of Western Electric has given him.

As a Georgian I take pride in his Rossville works even though I have never owned a 300V amplifier.

Mr. Whitener is the antithesis of the modern executive - he has long term plans.
 
The large AMT Dr.Heil invented has a large rectangular driver surface, the winged look comes from the magnet configuration. Since I too just saw these last night we can speculate if you turned this rectangle on its side, bent it into a crescent, reconfigured the magnets and built some kinda trap for the rear wave you could come up with something like this. If we just continue to speculate the original large AMT had excellent horizontal but poor vertical dispersion, this could be an attempt to solve this issue? Maybe Dave will chime in and end my poor speculations…
 
Yes, the back-wave are must certainly trapped.

One can clearly imagine the trap.

When it comes to the front wave, the front magnetic structure must be in the two middle parts.
This as it looks like the upper and lower just are parts of the wave guides.

The hard part must then be to achieve an even magnetic flux between the front magnetic structure and the supposedly back magnetic structure.
I suspect the magnetic structures are a mixture of magnets and pole pieces; I don´t see that the magnets are placed at the ends as an ordinary AMT.

I guess that I have to fire up FEMM; perhaps we can do it as well and not just WE.

But it says about Heil´s patent: "These views don’t show much detail of the magnet structure, but give an idea of how the diaphragm would radiate in all directions".

So I would love to the outer shell of this (picture from the link above):
