Well, not really kits, but panel cutting. I would like to find someone doing panel cutting as a service for home speaker builders. In particular, I would like to build a Metronome, but I hesitate to spend the time getting the angles correctly made.

I'm in Chicago, but shipping wihtin the U.S. shouldn't be a big deal as far as cost. At least for smaller floor standing designs.

Designing a true kit seems to be a big deal. Especially if the larger panels are going to be grooved to fit right angle pieces. But I think there's a significant need for just precision cutting of panels.

Anyone doing this kind of work, or thinking about it? While it's true I probably live withing ten miles of ten cabinet shops capable of doing this work, I would rather deal with somebody who understands the finished product.

The title is not really what I'm after. I know several custom cabinet builders. I built large custom homes for seven years and I'm familiar with cabinet builders. They have a lot of overhead and aren't going to be interested in cutting pieces like I'm suggesting.

I'm looking for a small speaker builder in the U.S. who is willing to take a project through the cut list and send me the cut pieces.

Seems like with the poor economy there might be a profitable job here.
One way this could work for both buyer and seller:
for example, the seller (cabinet maker) announces he's going to be making the cut list pieces for a 60" metronome in BB. People send him a paypal deposit, he gains the productivity advantage of making multiple units. The per unit cost could even be scaled depending upon the number of orders.

The cabinet maker is always cash positive as he builds to deposits. He just needs the skills and tools to make the parts both quickly and precisely.

The cabinet fabricator could decide to make extra units if he wanted to keep some inventory. Lots of possibilities here for smaller jobs that match interests and skills.

I could probably help you out. I am not a cabinet fabricator but wood working is a hobby and I have built a few speakers. Also I live in Peoria IL and have family in Chicago. So I can probably deliver the cut pieces. I guess the biggest question is when do you need these?

John
