Hi everyone, I'm Bruno from Uruguay, I'm very new about this audiophile world, even more on the DIY.
I have just brought an tube pre-amp kit from analogmetric, as an audio POT, im going to start building soon, im going to pair this preamp with 2xPA150 (3xLM3886 each) but I dont know where to put the volume pot, if in the preamp or in the poweramp.
So guys what do you say?
Greetings,
Bruno

what is input impedance of your power amp ?
and what is gain/output of your preamp ?
how much voltage out from your source ?

Many amps have down sloping distortion (less distortion at higher gain). In such a case, it is better to have the pot at the end of the preamp. It will also be better from a noise point of view. You need to match the input level, however, so that the preamp will be operating in its optimum region on the input signal you will provide.

with a low e nought value pot noise shouldnt be too much of a problem, either that or is it possible to put the volume pot after the first gain stage?
