Volt Loudspeakers vs. Acoustic Elegance

Wonky frequency response, high Le, no mention of copper in the gap, on their non phase plugged drive units there doesn't appear to be any pole venting, or there's no mention of it. There isn't really any real advantage of that radial stuff except for it looking different and probably costing you an arm and a leg. Most of their drivers have also been around for a very long time and don't really appear to be state of the art in the places that it matters.

The dome midrange for example is okay, but would really benefit from a modern neo magnet structure as it would appear that doing so would allow the drivers overall diameter to be significantly reduced. A 200mm dia magnet on a 3" driver. Okay.

Have you had experience with both or how did you come to that impression?

i own a pair of TD12m's and have spent at least 2hrs listening to a wilmslow audio which used one of the 12" volt drivers with the radial design, no entirely the same but there's enough wrong with them for me to never want to buy them.

the noise floor in the TD12M's are incredible compared to nearly any other comparable woofer and it isn't something you would believe until you've heard them. they play very smoothly up far higher than a 12" should and handle complex music pretty well.

The volt drivers sound like they have multiple resonances through the mid-bass and lower midranges which i can only attribute to the stupid frame blocking the escape of the sound. they just were not as clear as any other normal woofer and from what i can tell, the radial design is for heatsinking purposes only and offer no acoustic advantages.

its a marketing thing i'm sure,

Hi ernie
I have no experience with Ae but can assure you the Volt gear is great stuff..I use there 8" in my cc..
I just finished..almost. ..a monitof with 2 b2500 in each...
Their drivers will take punishment if so desired...my 180lbs Krell 600 will make all my volts dance without the drivers fatiguing.
Good luck though

No experience with Volt, but I own a pair of TD15M and looking at the specs and prices, there is no way I would have gone with the Volt 15". Not to mention I have an active setup and while TD15M looks easy enough to design passively for, that Volt looks like somewhat of a pain.

the stupid frame blocking the escape of the sound.

The frames dimensions are small enough such that they wouldn't have any affect on the frequencies that the driver would be reproducing.

Volts drivers used to be quite nice on paper but, unless I am mistaken, they haven't exactly done anything for a very long time with their driver ranges and the prices are absurd.

I mean £170 for a B220? You can do much better for less nowadays. It's a bit like the Audax HM series, when they were first introduced they were really rather nice, now they are not when it comes to their motor design.
