Hi All
I'm looking to connect 2x 3" full range speakers to a raspberry pi 2 running a Full-HD (192/24) HiFi DAC & 2x20w Class D AMP amp for a project.
Currently looking at 2 speaker types
Visaton FRS8 and Tang Band W3-881SJ
Anyone who has experiecce of these can advise which one is best?
Thanks

W3-881SJ is by far the better driver, but it is by far the more expensive one. So if cost is your primary concern, buy the Visaton. If SQ is your priority, then go with the Tang Band. (All drivers are different; this comparison between brands holds only for the models you asked about.)
Visaton Frs8 4 ohm are fantastic speaker.Im using them last 5 years in 1 liter sealded box and they sound so nice.Just leth them burn in for 100 hours and enjoy. 😀

Cost isnt an issue. Lot of people rave about tb drivers. Appreciate the advice 🙂
For more ideas and how drivers sound check out all the Subjective Blind Comparison threads. Given what you are looking at there I can say that the TG9FD is about the same price and will sound better.
Others to try and confirmed good sounding.
TC9FD, PS95-8, 3FE22, P830986, SB65WBAC, FR88EX - more money: B80, 10F/8424

I've only had TC9, FR88ex, and the 10F here.
To the list add FF85wk & Alpair 6.2m or p. These will handily outperform the 1st 2, i have only compared fully treated FF85wKen and A6.2PeN to the stock 10F, the treated drivers are about the same $$$ as the 10F (at least here in North America) and outperform the ScanSpeak handily. The 10F does go into a very small box (0.8 litre net) and are a real eye opener as to how little real bass a speaker can have and still be satisfying (The 10F will get to 120-140 Hz with a wind behind its back).

Rumours of a $55ish each price, and that they are on, or soon on the boat. All those calls must have pushed the schedule up.

OK, so that would place them well above TC9, slightly more than FR88EX, and less than SS 10F - depending of course on currency exchange and the other factors contributing to final cost landed to one's workshop
The TBs are great little drivers.
Ignore the "you ask about driver X or driver Y? Well I've heard drivers A,B, C and D and either will beat driver X and Y neither of which I've heard " cr@p.
Ive heard both and as someone posted earlier, either work, depending on requirements.
The TB have many fans for good reason, they sound excellent.
In my experience the FRS8 isn't bad, and a good budget option.
Have a look at the Tabaq threads for other examples of suitable drivers - that's my 0.02
