I have a strange question.
I wanted to order a new record, but I was wondering if the very cold winter temps (in the teens) can hurt them during shipping.

With all the abuse the shipping gorillas can dish out, cold temps would be the last of my concerns 🙂
Well, I haven't received anything damaged yet, but music direct packs well.
I know a things can get brittle when cold, wasn't sure about vinyl records.
It's actually freakishly cold at the moment. Wasn't sure if the cold + tossers could hurt them or not.
If no one else has a story, then maybe it doesn't matter.

The only time cold temps resulted in a damaged album was when I put it on the car dashboard after I bought it. The heater melted a nice bend in the outer edge- playable, with a quarter-ounce fishing weight on the cartridge!
You will certainly get plenty of advocates for cryo of just about anything. OTOH you could download a picture of the LP and keep it in the sun to neutralize the bad karma.
