Has anyone used or thought of a VHS video drum motor for driving a turntable. I don't have any turntable nor intend to own one as it is simply not practical in this part of the world, but everytime I look at the one I saved, I always thought it can make a good motor for a turntable.
How good are my thoughts.

Very briefly. Drum motors are servo motors and require specific drive. Turntable, syncronous motors, are so cheap why bother?
I will add here...for those that want to experiment
The drum motor runs at a constant speed when the record mode is operated and it runs at 1500rpm IIRC.

The inertia is too low and the rotation speed is too high. I'd rather recommend a reel motor salvaged from a reel-to-reel tape recorder. You can find cheap 500 rpm external rotor Papst motors perfectly suitable for the purpose... There are many turntable designs around with Papst motor.
Oddly enough, just in case anyone has missed it, the clue is in the description.
Record player motor is for record players, cassette deck motors are for cassette decks (although they were used rather unsuccessfully in a few low quality record players), Video Drum motors are for videos ... need I say more?
