About the BEF Film mentioned in that thread..

it is VERY expensive. I've got a price list here, costs about $500 for 30 sheets of 10X10" or about $500 for 10 sheets of 17x17" .. prices vary of course.

I got a free sample of some BEFII 90/24 and 90/50 and it really works wonderfully if used how they recommend... 90/24 in the back and 90/50 in front of it turned 90 degrees. It kills the viewing angle but really increases the brightness.

I've also got some ESR and some TRAFII that I have not played with as of yet.. am planning on using at least the TRAFII eventually.

I investigated using CCFL as a backlight, placed directly behind the LCD, with BEFII between the lightsource and the LCD. It works to a point but I have decided to abandon the plan because it would take way too many CCFLs to be worth while, simply put enough brightness cannot be obtained with a 10.4" screen like I have for the cost of a brighter source. Not to say that it would not work for smaller screens. The real problem with CCFLs is they require an inverter that supplies 850V AC or so, depending on the spec of the bulb... too much of a hassle for me.

As far as diffusing the light, BEFII seems to do a decent job of this... I had 6 CCFLs hooked up right next to eachother and you could not distinguish between them even though they were seperated slightly from one another. Sticking the original diffuser sheet even helped more.

I would have posted this at the other forum, however I am too lazy to register. 😎

Good luck with the mod. 🙂

Flouresent lamps

The leds do sound expensive, on ebay manufacture of leds are selling them 50 in a pack, dont know price. It's in the electronic component section on ebay.

I have two flouresent lamps that fit into the 4in parts express lcd they are about 6 inches long 13 watt(75 watt incandesent) they produce heat put not alot. I got them from walmart of a work light for 10.00.

These will be great for your projector if you want to use them.

Acutally, a few of us have been doing some research in the brightness on ccfls vs. leds. It turns out that an array leds would in fact be much brighter than a single (ppr dual for that matter) ccfl. With the use of 3m dual brightness film and an array of 20-40 led, i will in fact be able to project a bright image of up to 5-6 feet.
