VCA testing for dummies

I have a few Alisson Research VCAs pulled from an old Harrison MR3 console that doesn't work no more. Is there a way to test it with a multimeter, without soldering it in place on for example a compressor?

No, this is a complex device and must be tested operationally.

Those are EGC-101 VCAs

And can I simply replace an EGC-101 made by Valley People with a newer one made by Alisson Research? These VCA looks the same on the outside but are they the same on the inside?

I just dropped the new old VCA into a compressor and it worked all right.
