just curious as to how they deal with comb filtering, no info on that other than that it has a complex xover; specs look great...

Well I just put down a deposit, but I have to wait 6 – 10 weeks to find out how good they made those tweeters work together. However the salesman assures me that they sound “phenomenal”, so I guess I needn’t worry.

Well, after a long wait the VAF’s are in my living room and up and running. I’ve been reading The Challis Report (and similar “objectivist” slanted) audio equipment reviews in Australian electronics magazines since a kid, which have included many (always favourable) reviews of VAF speakers.
That’s why I was pretty much happy to buy theses blind.
Anyway, they’re great sounding speakers; probably the least critical of placement in a small room of any speaker I’ve owned. The twin-tweeter arrangement has been made to work well. So long as one is a decent distance from the speakers, the vertical (not to mention the horizontal) listening window is huge. The bass is fantastic and they go bloody loud without audibly distorting.

Here are some pics and two pages from the supplied owners guide describing the design philosophy.

I have auditioned VAF speakers at audio shows and found some of them a little forward in the midrange, I was always a little skeptical of the twin tweeter arrangement, I'll look out for them at the next show and have a critical listen

Perhaps you are just accustomed to speakers that are a little backward in the midrange 😀
Seriously though, I’ve now listened to these for many hours with a range of material and that is not the impression that I get.
What strikes me the most with these speakers is the quality and the neutrality of the bass. If anything, I think these speakers would initially sound “bright”, if compared to a typical hi-fi speaker with a boomy alignment.

Incidentally, this album contains some very well recorded female vocals and low bass for testing out any set of speakers.
