Hi to everyone,
i recently became the owner of a sony ps212 a turntable. The deck was in good condition in spite of its age. However it did not sound good when it was put to play a record. There was a lot of wows and distortion in the bass.I took off the underside cover to check the electronics and mechanism and found that the previous owner(s)have been messing with the adjustables.Reverting them to their correct settings though is a tough affair as i don't have the necessary equipment to do so.my various attempts have lessen the distortion and wows but not cured the thing. The markingss do not appear stationary on the strobe,no matter what careful settings are made. The electronics are simple and i have noticed that the two op amps useď are4558 chips.i have already changed all electrolytic capacitors and some resistors which have drifted in value according to their colour code.would a change to ne5532 chips along with the replacement of the 11 transistors would make a noticeable improvement.?I would also welcome the advice of a suitable and not too pricey cartridge for that deck.
thanks.

I would not consider replacing the op amps as an upgrade. You could introduce issues of instability etc.
I hope you have sourced the original type of transistors and capacitors.
