Some weeks ago I start this thread:
http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/mult...glockenklang-phenol-99db-based-rcf-tw116.html
and have get very good advices.
No I want to have an overview about this kind of tweeters:
so called cone tweeters
here an example - but cheap version:
Visaton - Lautsprecher und Zubehör, Loudspeakers and Accessories
The wanted overview must have only high quality versions without ferrofluid from currently production (nothing no longer available vintage versions like JBL). Except the cone tweeter from Davis (see attachement) and some vintage versions like this
JBL LE26 tweeter-
I dont find such tweeters.
The cone tweeter from this danish manufacturer sounded very fine:

Thank you for your advices

I'd put the Mark Audio Alpair 5 and Fostex FF85K into the category of quite decent cone tweeters.

Thank you for this advice. The "Alpair 5" looks similar like the loudspeakers from Ted Jordan used e. g. by the "Essence" from Konus Audio (Sakura systems/47lab)I'd put the Mark Audio Alpair 5 and Fostex FF85K into the category of quite decent cone tweeters.

Yes, the Alpair 5 is a slightly enhanced version of the Jordan J6T (your 2nd picture) that Mark Fenlon developed for Jordan when he was working with Ted.
The last of your posted pictures are my modified FF85KeN. They are real stunners.

Even though these are N.O.S. the Matsushita Cone Tweeter still has the performance many tweeters do not offer. It should be on your list of cone tweeters which do their job well.
I agree, especially if there are high quality magnet systems - thank you for this advice.Even though these are N.O.S. the Matsushita Cone Tweeter still has the performance many tweeters do not offer. It should be on your list of cone tweeters which do their job well.
are MT225 or the Mitsubishi Alnico version still in production?

this tweeter from visaton looks better than the example you posted:
Visaton - Lautsprecher und Zubehör, Loudspeakers and Accessories
although i have to agree with P10, the MA 5 looks sweet and as near as i would think it is able to get to a good mid tweeter. which gives me some ideas.....hmmmm

While very good it is still not up to the FF85. With the need to redesign the A5 to meet new EuroSpec (no ferrofluid), i have challenged him to make the next gen better, and even sent him a set of uFonken to use as a reference. I'm pretty sure he can do it. What he has learned from the A7 & A12 alone should do it.

I don't think so. The main disadvantage is a very low Bl product (magnet construction not good) and high Qes. Expected power compression already by lower levels. If there are the right magnet, this could be a good tweeter
still one of the best sounded dome Tweeter - RCF Vintage TW116

Hi, I just read this query now so forgive the delay. These (Matsu) tweeters have not been produced in a few decades and I'm unaware that any are still being produced. I highly doubt it though. Alnico magnets are just too expensive to produce, especially for what would widely be considered a "mass market" tweeter. It's performance is outstanding no matter what label gets hung on it.
I'm the only guy in the world who offered them as NOS (or otherwise I think) but don't offer them anymore. Maybe I'll incorporate them as part of a finished product someday.

Supravox would be able, to re-introduce such a cone-tweeter. There are a lot of alnico versions (2000 series, also not appropriate for the mass marked).

There are undoubtedly several manufacturers out there who could make an alnico drive paper cone tweeter but I don't see why they would go to the trouble unless the niche hi-fi marketplace called for it. Like elliptical drivers, cone tweeters seem to have stigma attached to them irrespective of their potential performance.
about the URLs
FRS 5 X - 8 Ohm
TW 70 - 8 Ohm
TW 6 NG - 8 Ohm
you will find several Visaton datasheets (FRS5X, TW70 and TW6NG) of cone tweeters. The largest disadvantage here is the absense of a large magnet system for high sensitivity (neodymium) like by this version:
http://www.scan-speak.dk/datasheet/pdf/r2904-700000.pdf
Where are cone paper tweeters with heavy ferrite or neodym magnet systems for very high efficiency (at best 100db/1W/1m) ??
Thank you for your advices
in this case also this URLs are of interest:
