Hello,
This thread is posted due to a conversation on casey's Corian TT Fun thread, which is pasted in below:
Andy,
The At-110e is an eliptical stylus, MM cartridge, but is well regarded, and costs 25. I was thinking of making my own arm- a knife-edge vertical bearing, with a VCR head as the horizontal bearing.
For the plinth, I have found that Asda do a nice Granite chopping board for 13. I have found some PTFE rod on ePay that would make a nice bush for the main platter bearing, although I cannot machine a hole in it (I have no machine tools, although I may be able to use one at the college that I am doing an evening class at).
For the platter, I was thinking of a lead-shot or sand (or both) loaded MDF platter. With a thin (~3mm) peice of acrylic on top, and a platter mat made from an LP, it would be well-damped and well-coupled to the LP.
The motor would probably be a floppy drive motor, with a VHS/ 1/4 inch Reel to Reel tape drive belt. This would need a push to start it, though.
If we both end up making something similar, what do you have to compare it with? I have a Bang and Olufsen Beocentre 7000- with a lightweight, resonant platter, so not the best reference.

I am looking at building a DIY TT, but at a super-low budget (think 75 (~145USD) inc. arm and AT-110e Cart.)
I've been playing about with a couple of TT's now, but would love to get on and champion a solid (ie, "non suspension" TT - 'Casey style' (heh heh...sorry Case, you've started something now !!)
Jrevillug, I rekon we can work on some ideas between ourselves, cobble some materials together and make a start - whadda ya say ? We can share our findings with all on here ??
AT-110e - Line contact profile If I'm correct ?? - A good basic start !
What arm are you thinking of ?
