UK Digital TV STB Chips

I've just bought a Goodmans GDB2 Digital TV box which uses
the Omega STI5518BVC chip to do all it's MPEG decoding. One of the
advertised features in the ST blurb sheet (http://us.st.com/stonline/products/promlit/pdf/flsti5518-1101.pdf) is digital audio
SPDIF. Goodmans didn't wire this up in their box (and may not have enabled
it in the chip) but I'd like to know the pin outs to see if it works. I can't find a data sheet
on the web (or www.st.com) so does anyone know where I can get one?

Hi Bill,

Sorry to sound pessimistic, but IF that chip is capable of coding and driving SPDIF, it probably needs to be instructed to do so. Whatever chip gives you the menu system is probably a microcontroller which sends those kind of instructions to the ST chip at power-up.
I hope I'm wrong...

Cheers,

Pin 57 is the SPDIF output pin, but there is no guarentee it is enabled, or what will be there. It could be compressed or not compressed as well.

The 5518 has a built in processor and would just pull the program code from flash in all likelihood.

Good Luck!
