The only thing I've noticed about the treble in the Pencil's I made was the dispersion - I have far better dispersion from my Audio Nirvana Super 15" Ferrite (whizzer) compared with the MA10.3. But I would not describe the 10.3 as 'beaming', it's just rolled-off when you move off-axis.
A little, just in the upper treble.
I really mean "super tweeters"
I have a pair of Pluvia Seven and I love them without tweeters, but with the A10.3 it's another story.
I like to hear them on axis,
When I compared them with other speakers, the lack of the upper treble is very noticeable
That Jbl tweeter has low Z , 3 Ω is written... and the sensitivity data, 93 (dB/W/m), has to be "scaled" when used together with a higher Z driver, because the voltage applied is the same. The MA Alpair sensitivity is 88 dB and the driver is 8Ω...strange that you need a tweeter because I see this on the Madisound page: this latest model delivers usable frequency range up to 25-kHz while retaining its “purist” single cone design. 😕😛
agreed what you're looking for is already in super tweeter area, the JBL provide 2nd order filter around 11kHz and it has extra resistor to match with alpair impedance
I also bought Vifa OX20SC00-04 dan Beston rt002a-dipole, among 3 of them i find that Beston give the most airy/sparkling treble. and the most important thing is they are all cheap
to ensure whether you need additional tweeter or not for your FR, just get any tweeter and try 1uf - 2uf. If you find it give any extra treble then use it, otherwise just use the FR.
anyway I have Fostex T90A to accompany my AudioNirvana Classic 8.
