Turntable interconnect for Jelco arm

I just purchased a Jelco SA750E. The pricing on the factory interconnects is a bit high by my standards.
I'll be using a Denon DL103 cartridge, going to a battery powered boozehound pre-pre-amp (because I have it and can't afford a SUT right now), to an undecided phono stage, to an Aikido octal line stage to DIY F4 amps.

Is there any magic to these, other than lining pockets? Suggestions for gauge, wire and DIN plug?

Deciding on a gain stage for the undecided part is a different subject but feel free to drop me a suggestion, it doesn't have to be DIY.

From a DIY perspective, I place importance on the decent quality and affordable DIN plug. I tend to favor products from 1877Phono (More Information Page) and used them. There's 2 types, straight barrel or the other with angled outlet. Choice is yours which type is suitable. It does take quite a bit of soldering and cabling skill to custom your own. I've to be super careful as not to melt the plastics during the termination process. I usually plug into a disused male din plug to dissipate any heat when soldering the cable to it.
The one I buy and use is 90 deg angle for my Linn LP12. Its of anodized aluminum body and a solid feel to it.

Given the price of a Cardas DIN connector, that isn't a bad eBay deal but the cable is similar as I bought from APEXJR a few years ago for $0.15 a foot. I spent an afternoon looking for the part number but wasn't able to find a match to confirm the shield is silver plated copper, but it appears to not actually be PTFE. The description says color = PTFE. Also not sure about choice to go from a low output MC to 20 gauge wire before it reaches a gain stage - from trying to work out what I could read on the wire he is using it appears it may be 22 gauge when I compare the number to the similar wire I have on hand and searching the web.
What gauge is wise to use for a short runs from a low output MC cartridge? I'll have to allow 1 meter because of the side of the plinth the tonearm is located.

Now considering wiring from the DIN connector straight to the next gain stage, that way no need to buy RCA plugs / jacks. The 1877 DIN plug is reasonably priced.

Using shielded cable as used in the example from ebay, it isn't clear where the shield is grounded. It leaves me scratching my head a little. If it is grounded, it must be at the end with the DIN plug, along with the separate ground wire.

At the din plug, I join the 2 shields to the M-Din ground pin (I use a single very short length of Cat 5 cable core to the Gpin). At the same time, a separate ground wire carefully joined at that shield and terminated with a spade at the other end. On the other end, the shield can be left floating (not terminated). I think its about the same method you're thinking. It works fine for me.
