Hi all i'm new to this forum and ive got a quick question?

I turned up the volume on my Cambridge Audio A5 amp the other day (and this wasnt cranking it, the volume dial was in the middle) any way, after i turned it up the power cut immediately.

Since then the thing doesnt turn on, i tried changning the fuse on the plug adapter and that was fine.

Anyone got an idea as to what the problem is?

Thanks

GJ

Both channels gone? ...then it's something far enough back to affect both channels, probably the PSU. Look for an internal fuse or fuse on the back of the amp. Look for any thing obviously blown up (burn marks) inside. Switch it on and check if you have positive and negative power rails and report back. If you don't know how to do this, then it's an uphill struggle, go to a repairman.

Hi JG,
You can be well into clipping when your volume control is half way around. In any event, it should have been extremely loud.

A couple questions. What exactly was the amplifier connected to on your speaker outputs? Was there anything like mixers ahead of the amp, or just things like a tuner and CD player?

It's probably blown its internal fuses.. and possibly it's output transistors. These amp's have very poor heatsinking and are just not designed to be used.

You say you weren't "cranking it" but you had the dial at the middle - with normal music, that is "cranked".
