Hi
in photo the first proto of the MC step up with three ratios: 10, 20 ,40.
The trafos are from Sowter who developped for me a type with some electrical specs.
It would be a "brother" of the Tango 999.
I tested this one and the performances on lab are very good. Compared with a original 999 are similar in all three ratios.
The other particular aspect is the Elma 24 position 2 way that put in parallel to the standard Zin 24 different resistor values to adjust the reflected impedance.
There is a table to read the effective value seen by MC head.
On Audioreview magazines I have reviewed the lab tests of the original 999 with the same approach.
The listening test was made by a collegue, owner of three pairs of 999 and 102 pcs of MC head.
On listenign test (but also on lab) it is very interesting way to get the best working point.
At the monent it is only a proto and maybe will be a product.

Good Morning, Walter:
Very nice unit. 😉
Have you had some time to test run it through your (or other's) system? If so, what are the results.
If you were to put it into production, what would be the pricing. Certainly something that would be very useful for those who have more than one tonearm and various MC cartridges.
Thanks.
From Canada,
Sincerely,
Kingsley.
Hi Kingsley
I have the complete set of measure for the three ratios.
In next days I will post them.
I am preparing also a web page but need some time again
Also for the price I am checking the parts and labour time.
There are 46 Holco resistors and 1 x Elma 2 x 24 positions in addition of the trafos.
The listening test in some installation were fine and also changing the load it is possible to trim the quality.

That's great Walter. Looking forward to seeing/hearing about the outcome/results (and pricing). 😎
Thanks.

Hi
in attach the response for the three ratios.
The nomial source trimmed on AP2 is
40 ohm for 1:10
10 ohm for 1:20
2,5 ohm for 1:40
two channel, pefectly balanced
I have available few protos for test , in case I can send you one to check the sound aspect

In attach the txt doc about the reflected load to the primary for two different phono load for each position of the switch(= resistor in parallel to the secondary of trafo).
The standard 47k and, in case, 100k.
The form is not very good but it comes from a excel page.
The range is huge.

Hi Walter:
Wow, so many settings to pick from! 😱
Great work. 😀
Don't think I'll be able to afford it though.
Thanks.
