So feeling left out with all the DD threads ongoing so decided to start my own. Yesterday I picked up my Dad's old Trio KD-550. Been up in the roof for the last decade but seems in good condition. Sadly when it was removed from the rack it was installed in all the connectors were cut off so I can't do a 'quick check'.

Anyway lid still works and arm seems to move freely. But that won't stop me taking it apart.

Plan is to upgrade this to PLL drive over time and change the arm (I have an SME 309 on my other turntable, so a 3009 is very tempting). I'm going to run this with MM cartridges as this should be a platform that allows me to experiment.

But first challenge is where to put is. It's too large for my current equipment rack 🙁

I cannot believe, but it's taken 4 years to get this running again. At the end of the day wasn't much needed, just had 2 additional kids in the interim 🙂.

Work done: clean and lube main bearing, clean speed control pots, fit new power lead and make new tonearm to preamp cable. And fit new cartridge.

Now this was supposed to be my mono deck and fitted with an MM, but my MM phono stage is also delayed so I fitted a period correct cartridge I got a rather good deal on. Signet MK112E, which was mangled in transit and has been rebuild with a TK9LCA cantilever and stylus, making it possibly a one off 🙂.

I have to say I am pleasantly suprised by how good the combo sounds. Even with a basic alignment setup it steps back and lets the music play. Not even sure I can be bothered to upgrade the drive system now, but that will have to wait for me to test the stability.

I do need to refill the arm lifter as the damping fluid has dried/leaked out of that.
