I'm thinking of building of subwoofer and the thought occured to me that this might be a cool idea having it placed in the corner and all. Would there be any downsides to having a enclosure in this shape?

I'll presume you mean a right triangle with the right angle in the corner.
The shape can be strong, and it will get you the most SPL in that location. It will also maximally excite room modes. So it'll be lumpy in terms of response. Probably better to stay with a more conventional box, and get it out into the room a little bit.
A couple boxes are better still, sometimes 2 subs has higher WAF because you can go with a smaller design for each.
