Hello all,
I'm in need of the following transistors and resistors, all for the centre speaker output channel of my ONKYO TX-SR506:
Transistors: 2SC5198, 2SA1941, 2SC5171 and 2SA1930
Emitter resistor: PHR MPR 2W R22K x2
I'm having a lot of trouble trying to source them, Farnell and RS Components are drawing blanks. I can find the transistors on the above companies but they are showing as obsolete, but I can't get a result searching for the resistor. Are there any alternative numbers and letters other than "PHR MPR 2W R22K x2" I should be using for searching?
And as for the transistors is there a replacement/updated part number?
Some photos of them:
Thanks in advance for any help,
Cheers,
fred

The exact resistor would probably have to come from Onkyo although most repair techs would simply fit a pair of standard 0.22 ohm, 3 watt rated resistors.
Same for the transistors, although with luck you should be able to find standard replacements such as MJ21193/MJ21194 for the outputs. Check the data sheets for the originals first to see what you are dealing with.
All the 2SA/B/C/D numbers are Japanese parts and you may well draw a blank in finding reputable suppliers. (Don't buy semiconductors from ebay, to many fake devices around)

I would not special order dual resisotrs like that unless I was already getting other things from that supplier. I agree, and a pair of 0.22 ohm resistors in 3-5 watt size would take its place quite well.
The R in R22 is to mean a decimal point. So R47 means 0.47 ohms. Likewise 4k7 means 4.7k. and 1M2 means 1.2 meg.
SO you are searching for dual 0.22 ohm dual resistors. Or just use discretes.

Hi fred,
for the emitter resistors check for Fukushima Futaba Electric 2x 0,22 Ohm
MPC708 (2W) or MPC725 (5W).
I think , thats exaxtly what you need.

I have a bunch of these parts, probably scrapped out 20 or 30 onkyo's this year. Funny thing is demon, pioneer and Yamaha all use the same output configuration. Where are you located?

I'm in Jersey, Channel Islands (part of the UK). I think the cost of postage will be a killer. I can't find a UK supplier for the resistor, but found one in the USA on ebay, but wants $20 inc postage. However, I'd be interested in how much you want for all the transistors and resistor, inc postage.
Is there anyone in the UK reading this that can help?
This is my first foray into HiFi repair, and have to admit that I'm finding it quite difficult.
Cheers,
fred
Fred, you can have them for just shipping. They are used parts but I can give you a few pairs of each cause I have bunches. Lol
Nightrider, that would be fantastically awesome mate. Let me know how much shipping is and if you have paypal (send me a PM with details if you do). Seeing as this is my first attempt at repairing an amp, having a few pairs of each would be ideal in case I make a mistake or damage a component whilst working on it.
Btw, I have a soldering iron with a variable heat selector, 200c to 500c. Any idea on which setting for soldering these components?
Cheers,
fred

Temperature of the iron depends to some extent on the heat capacity of the bit but typically around 320C is usually OK for standard lead free solder.
Let me get them out and test and I will pm (probably after the new year). Make sure you order new resistors for the circuit. They will be flameproof ones.
OK, thanks again.
When you say "Make sure you order new resistors for the circuit. They will be flameproof ones.", do you mean all of the type of resistors I've highlighted with a circle in the picture below? 😕

Flameproof and safety related parts are normal marked on the circuit diagram with a warning triangle. Those look like standard 0.25w carbon or 0.1 watt metal glaze that often adorn this type of equipment. The large white resistors will officially be a flameproof/safety item.
Mooly is correct, but normally they are all flameproof in the amplifier circuit. There is also a small transistor on the heat sink you will want to replace also. You can see it between the driver compliments.
I have a HT-R560 - same amp I believe.
Mine has a dead left channel I cut the power transistors and have it working now.
But manual says mine are 2sa1962 and 2sc5242 - maybe its a different amp after all.
I need those and the .22 ohm resistor, Mine has a nice black mark on the left channel one.
Thanks.
Srinath.

Ooo thanks for the input
Denon, yamaha, pioneer - OK I must have 1 DOA per -
Let me look and see what turns up.
Thanks.
