What do transistors do?
In short, transistors act as switches. If you apply voltage to the base, current will be able to pass between the collector and the emitter.
NPN and PNP
NPN and PNP transistors work on the same principles, except that they are polar opposites. When you compare the two, the direction of current flow switches at every terminal.
Types of Transistors
Bipolar
MosFets?
JFets
Tubes or Valves - These aren't really transistors, but they work similarly. I would rather a separate page on tubes be made.
