Hello dear DIY Audio community,
which fullrange speaker drivers between 5 and 8 inches are your preferred speaker drivers for TQWT applications? And which TQWT variations make the most sense?
Regards Stefan

Assuming by TQWT you're talking about [single] tapped horns, mass-loaded or otherwise, for the first I'd say 'whatever driver in that size range suitable for vented box loading you like most & will handle the desired FR / power handling at the listening position'. And in the second, being something of a heretic, I tend to think unfolded types for mass-loaded designs (since if you want a rectangular box, an MLTL will do the same or better in most cases), or single-fold for a BIB type 1/2 wavelength tuned non-ML pipe horn.
I've only done one ML-TQWT (such an unwieldy acronym I'm going to call them MLhorn m'Lorn from now on). It is the bottom half of my stacked fullrange micor55.

I just found out the "Correct" brand 5" leather-surround driver may be listed on iwistao.com (see neighboring thread). In my subwoofer tower converted to MLhorn the bass was flat to <40hz (in-room-tone-sweep-by-ear so YMMV). Used by itself on the front baffle, the HF could use some correction (like any fullrange).
I've done many down-tapered slot-loaded folded TL (which I call TLonken t'Lonken). These are extremely compact; volume reduction up to 3X. Generally, low-Qts small-Vas drivers fit TLonken. I think high-Qts large-Vas drivers fit MLhorn better.

Hello dear DIY Audio community, hello "Scottmoose",
by a TQWT I mean a "Voigt Pipe". namely a mass loaded, folded version similar to the "Sibelius" by Pearl Acoustic whose output opening corresponds to 5 cm x 16.1cm x 80.5 sqcm so approx. the SD (membrane area of 88.25 sqcm).
Kind regards Stefan

Sibelius is a Mass Loaded Voigt (ML-Voigt). As outlined in the Sibelius thread, the best version is designed specifically for that driver.

Hello Dave,
budget??? I don' t want to sell a kidney for it! Taste - the driver should be versatile. Room - 25qm. Support kit - AM 201 H/Opera Audio Cyber 10
Kind regards Stefan

You might want to keep in mind that this is a hobby site. People have limited time, personal lives including health issues, and aren't able to be here 24/7, even if you think they should be. Patience, grasshopper. 😉
My own answer is the same as I gave above: 'whatever driver in that size range suitable for vented box loading you like most & will handle the desired FR / power handling at the listening position'. I'll add another: 'that is a good technical match to the amplifier / desired enclosure type as they form a summed system'. Those are the first criteria -everything else comes secondary, since you can have the 'best' driver in the world at one thing, but if it can't do what you need it to do, it's not much use. As for drivers, in alphabetical order, Fostex, Markaudio, Tang Band to name three are all popular and fairly affordable depending on size, model range etc. But there are many others depending on where you're wanting to buy from, where your priorities / compromises lie in performance / construction, and how much you think your kidneys are worth. 😉 Using the three examples above, the MA and TB drivers tend toward flexibility, while Fostex are a bit more specialised toward SET users, although they have backed off a bit on that. And so on.

SB Acoustics SB20FRPC30-8 should fit your needs. TQWT project by member "nandappe" in this thread, see post #51:

nandape has done a range of folded ML-Voigts, Scott has done a couple for FE108e∑ and FF165wk, as well as a bunch of straight ones (Festivals)

Hey, hey hey - what's going on????
Yes, the Am 201 H is that right - the Opera Consonance cyber 10 has a single terminal pentode KT 88 (9 WPC) per channel, which can be switched to Triode (6 WPC). And even on my ATC SCM 19 these 6 WPC are working fine!!!!!!!
Kind regards stefan

Do you still have both kidneys?
This is a visualization of Lancet for FE108e∑, Nandape’s ue the same fold.
And thee are Festivals
And these are Metronome
I am partial to the Markaudio drivers.

a bit long in the tooth now, but was very popular back in the day.
These were run and demo'd many times with a 2a3 and performed well. The ports can be adjusted for load to suit and the wave guide can be ignored if so desired. I tried many variations with and without the wave guide. I preferred with but clio found no difference in response.

Which is a good indication.with and without the wave guide. I preferred with but clio found no difference in response.
Hello Dave,
thanks for the info/drawings. Both kidneys definitely yes - but how should I argue???? Always with the same old appologies ? I could blame my age for this. But no, sorry I just forgot my class A section. Consisting of a musical fidelity A1 completely overhauled with mark Hennessy pre-stage and a JLH power stage (7WPC) with an eastern electric Minimax pre. And I want to pre-empt your question if I have a brain - yes available!!!!!!!!
Kind regards Stefan

Metronome
Here is a table of Metronome dimensions for a mess of drivers, not up-to-date but will give you an idea of the range: https://frugal-horn.com/metronome-table.html

I second the SB Accostic driver, better than vintage Goodman Axiette, Philips 9710 and the Lowthers that I have heard.
Just like some vintage Philips 6.5" and 5" drivers they just sound "right" from the start.
The SB being 8" and having a good range of motion can but out a lot of bass in a 25 square meter room. A 4-5" will perhaps be more delicate in the top octaves but output will be limited. There is allways trade offs.
