TPA3116/D2 to power 3 speakers?

Hey,

I'm new to audio and am looking for recommendations on an amp suitable for car audio. I'm looking for a small enclosed amp that can power 3 speakers (1 in front, 2 in the rear).

After searching this forum for a while i've found the TPA3116/TPA3116D2 to be most recommended. The problem is, they are only in 2.1 stereo, 2.0 stereo or 1.0 mono.

The most simple solution I can think of is:
- 2.1 stereo amp
- Left and right channel for rear speakers
- Subwoofer channel for front speaker
- Turn the subwoofer frequency to the max

This is probably not the best idea, which is why I'm posting :boggled: I'm open to suggestions on what I can do!

It's going in a car from the 70s. A lot of cars from that era only had 1 or 3 speakers.

Hahaha well I just thought there would be a point in that frequency range where it would sound like a regular speaker.

Wow that one looks great! Shame that it takes so long to deliver.

I've read that it's possible with a 2 channel:
- Left CH: Left rear speaker, centre front speaker wired in parallel
- Right CH: Right rear speaker, centre front speaker wired in parallel

Can anyone confirm? Would prefer a smaller unit so I can retrofit it into the factory radio.

Scratch that. I was looking for speakers and there's not much selection in 8 ohms.

So new proposed setup:
- 2CH amp
- Left CH: Left rear speaker (4ohm), centre front DVC speaker (4ohm) wired in series
- Right CH: Right rear speaker(4ohm), centre front DVC speaker (4ohm) wired in series

Maybe if you went for a 4 channel amp it would help with setting the levels front to back.

Unfortunately there's no compact 4 channel amp 🙁

Am I going to have level issues proposed setup? I don't mind if there's not too much difference since I rarely take passengers.

I'm so curious, what car?
I would probably get a 3 channel or a 4 channel car amp that has bridgeable outputs. Just make sure it isn't set for a low pass filter. The Alpine KTP-445U can fit behind a radio usually.

1979 Toyota Cressida.

I've read that the TPA3116/D2 has bridged outputs. I'm trying to keep this pretty low budget since it's just a replacement for my bluetooth speaker that I use

I think being able to set front/rear levels is a part of any reasonable setup. The speakers are going to begin with different sensitivities. Their response may call undue attention, consider that you might be listening to them on a certain axis. This might have an effect on your overall tonal balance.

There are other ways to deal with issues like this, they won't be any simpler.
