Toshiba SC - 335 and Toshiba SY - 335

Firstly, may apologies as I know very little about musical equipment, and I hope this is not in the wrong thread, but here goes,

Las week i purchased an old sound system. Brand is Toshiba (model number listed above) and it also came with a turntable.

When I brought it home to set up, I noticed the turntable does not have a needle for playing records (stupid, I know, but like I said, I am totally unfamiliar with all this) Are needles easy enough to come by? Do I need a specific one or are there generic ones I can pick up?

Also, when I brought it home and set it up, I tested the radio on it, it works fine but it seems to be stuck on full volume, which is pretty loud to put it mildly. I am looking at the back at all the cables and I may as well be looking at heiroglyphs.

Could anyone please help me and shed some light on these issues?

Thanks in advance,

Stefan

Well Stephan, to give you advice on where to get a needle depends on where you live at on this planet. There are generic replacements available. You will need the name and model of the cart.
RE the full volume: From what I recall with Toshiba "Y" is the preamp and the "C" the power amp. It could be you plugged the power amp into the monitor or record output instead of the pre-out of the preamp. E

Thanks for your response Mickeymoose.

I am based in The Republic of Ireland so any companies that ship to the UK will usually ship to us.

I will have a look for the name and model on the cart tomorrow when I am home (I presume that it will be easy found on the unit itself???)

And if what you are saying is I may have plugge dit in incorrectly, that is probably the case. I will have a play around with it tomorrow based on your advice and hopefully that will help.

Thanks again,

Stefan
