My old Electrocompaniet AW250DMB blew up
They warned me at EC the last time; they didn`t have any more of those old transistors left so the next time they blew up I`ll have to replace them all. (24)
Well, now it just happened, I saw the smoke from the left board on the right side amp. Picked it out to identify the transistors and see if I could find those old Toshibas somewhere, and it looks like I did. Activeparts claims to have them both.
But even if they have Toshiba written on them they don`t look like the ones in my amp, these are black while the existing(?) are green.
Anyone who know a bit about this? Any reason why I should not use these replacements?

They are most probably fakes or cheap chinese remakes, you would be much better off replacing with other more modern transistors even from different manufacturers.
First find the reason why they are blowing in the first place. If its because of power handling get transistors that can withstand higher currents.

I would try 2SA1216 and 2SC2922. They have the same pinout and outline. They are a bit higher, so you may have to do some mechanical juggling.
I have done it a few times, so I know it is doable.

Beside the 5mm height-difference, the SA1095 are as fast as 60mhz while the SA1216 are 40mhz. That`s only 2/3 of the speed, won`t the slower ones need moore feedback?

The 2SA1216 is spec`ed at a height of 6mm, the 2SA1095 at 5,3 which equals a height DIFFERENCE of max 1mm. Should not pose any problem.
When EC went from 2SA1095 to 2SA1302, they did not alter any compensation. You can can safely assume that no problems will arise from the transitorial diversion of 2SA1216 as compared to 2SA1095.

PaleRider, the mounting holes are spaced at 24.4mm for both transistors, so thats good.
The 2SA1216 is indeed 5mm taller, but from the mounting hole to the bottom of the package thats only 2.5mm more, so you might not have a problem.
The pins are identically spaced at 5.45mm.
Try it and see.

Maybe it would be a good point to clarify what is meant by taller. The Sanken package is 6,1mm thick, the Toshiba is 5,3mm max. What this implicates is that the Sanken should fit snugly UNDER the circuit board, but the pins will have to be bent slightly backwards. Not a big issue.

I was thinking in terms of when the two transistors are aligned at their mounting holes, will the pins be in the same place or different.

I went for 2SA1216 and 2SC2922 but I still haven`t heard the result, just know they works
Are you have information for BIAS and DC offset for AW250? As I understand after such replacement amp. needs in adjustment.
A guy in Holland sells them on a national eBay like site, for 20 euro's per pair. I can pass his email, please PM.
