I'm just about to add tube output for my CD player and have doubt with additional toroid transformer placement. Space is a bit tight, and transformer will be put far away from output connectors and tubes. Would it be necessary to add some kind of shield for toroid? Re-cycled ferrous can from kitchen came to mind, it is nice and round
Or thicker ferrous material should be used?

For magnetic shielding of static or slowly varying fields (< 100 kHz), ferrous materials won't work. You need Permalloy or Mu-metal.
Toroids have generally low leakage, that is why they are so popular. I would be more concerned about noise emanating from the high voltage secondaries.

The leakage very much depends on the maker, some really know their subject (like Amplimo), others are a true drama.
After all, the noise coupling depends on the receiving end, one has to see for low and high impedance circuits to know if he gets hit by magnetic or capacitive coupling, you can't generalise that.......
Oh, and don't forget the hidden winding on ALL toroidals
best

Don't understand this part..
That was a bit cryptic!
Perhaps he means the bolt through the middle. The two ends must not connect via casing or you get a shorted turn.

He means on the static shield copper wire winding between primary and secondary, usually connected to the ground, in some cases this can be achieved with copper foil.

non of the above:
The winding starts and stops , both ends are the winding connections, the loop is a single one
cheers

you're referring to the core?
I was talking about windings, not the core........
cheers
