Toploader CD weight/puck

I am building a toploader SACD transport and have only one problem. I cannot find a weight to place on top the CD spindle to keep the disc in place when in operation. I have thought of making one out of wood, but I thought one would be commercially available? Any suggestions?

Look for the clamp for the SCD-1/777ES as it costs about half as much and should be suitable. Last time I checked it was still available directly from Sony. Sorry I don't conveniently have the part number to hand, but you should be able to find it on the Sony Service site.

Lots of pics of Pucks

Hi Khundude,

Regarding clamps for a top loader you can always make one. I used some brass rod and had a friend cut some slices and machine them into discs. Most small engineering companies or anyone you know with a lathe would be able to do it for a small cost.

In the pic attached there are 2 brass pucks of slightly different mass. On the top left is the puck from a Marantz CD94 II. On the top right I have added a small neodymium magnet to the white plastic puck from a Philips Cd104.

I found that the mass of the puck can effect the sound, the light one with the magnet gives a very open sound. I originally started with washers and Blutac and varied the mass, about 50g for Philips based swing arm drives is ok.

Cheers,

Rich
